Puckerooms? Really Guys? Come on Now.

Needing a sugar kick in the middle of one of my longer classes at gradschool I ran to the little market they have in the UB on the University of Washington campus. I had been thinking maybe some Sour Patch Kids, or hey some non alcoholic gummy bears. ( I honestly can’t tell you the last time I ate gummy bears without booze added to them.)  I just needed something to kick the sweet tooth.

puckerooms2Then I come across a bag of Puckerooms. Or…Peckerooms, because seriously look at the bag. Apparently these have been around for a few years at this point. How did I miss this? This candy ripe for mockery? This hilarity of the phallic sugary treats?

First of all, I have to admit that I like the way that Wonka has been trying to go more with the candy theme of the movies, you know that whole the whole world is made of candy. That being said…you KNOW who ever came up with a name as easily toyed with as Puckerooms was probably laughing their butt off every time the gummies made it through another check point in the production process and then when they finally saw them on the shelves. Really, how did they NOT know what that looked like as they let them through marketing? I have an idea that they in fact did know and are in on the joke.

Now here they are where you can buy them and share the phallic joy with all your friends. What is our fascination with colorful mushrooms that aren’t actually mushrooms? They show up all over the place.

So I bought a bag of them and took them back to class. They weren’t really all that special when you got them out of the bag barring that the purple ones really did look pretty funny. The taste was pretty bland all things considered, not really as sour as Sour Patch Kids but also not overly sweet. Boring.

I think I might have to get a pack to put in a care package to a deployed friend. Share the humor…give your friends Peckerooms…er…Puckerooms.
